About Kurukulle

Kurukulle, or Red Tara, performs magnetising and controlling activities to attract people, resources and circumstances for growth in all aspects of life. She removes obstacles, improves health and wisdom, and creates good conditions for Dharma practice.

Sometimes called the Female Buddha of Love, she helps us develop the ability to influence others positively and achieve respect, love and support by improving our communication skills and relationships with family, friends, superiors and subordinates. She is also the source of the fierce inner heat or tummo.

Red in colour, Kurukulle appears in the form of a youthful maiden with a slightly wrathful expression. She has four arms — her upper two arms hold a bow and arrow while the lower two hold a hook and lasso. Her implements are constructed of red utpala flowers and symbolise her subjugating activities for the accomplishment of all goals. She stands in a dakini pose with one leg stepping on a human form — this represents her trampling on our negativities, namely desire. Also known as Rig Gyema in Tibetan, her name means 'She Who Causes Knowledge' or 'She Who Awakens Non-Dual Awareness'.
